About Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatment

Squamous Cell Carcinoma - SCCSquamous Cell Carcinoma (known as SCC or non-melanoma carcinoma) is mainly caused by regular sun exposure or sun burn. SCC usually develops on the skin tissue and within the mucous lining of body cavities. Over the last 30 years SCC has become more common due to the increase levels of UV B, caused by global warming. SCC is the second most common type of skin cancer, which accounts for around 15% of cases.

SCC is simple to treat and will only ever spread internally in 5% of all cases. If left untreated the SCC can multiply the cancer cells, causing more damage to the healthy skin tissue. The longer it is left untreated, more skin tissue is invaded and the lesion becomes larger and more noticeable, which could develop into a potentially deadly melanoma.

Sunlight is the most common cause of SCC, but many people can be at risk due to ulcers on the skin, scar tissue and x-ray damaged tissue. Lifestyle choices can also be a risk. Using carcinogens, artificial tanning devices and surgical operations such as organ transplants can make you susceptible to SCC's.

There are 2 types of Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
To detect SCC, look for these 2 changes in skin:

  • Bowens disease symptoms :
    • Bowens disease looks like a dry rough patch
    • It is often thought to be a fungus or rash
  • Keratoacanthoma symptoms:
    • A rapidly forming lump with a central dry core
    • It is frequently thought to be a boil or cyst

If any of these changes occur to your skin, it is recommended you see your medical practitioner so that you can be informed about the skin changes, assess the risk and/or possible treatment.

How can Curaderm-BEC5 treat Squamous Cell Carcinoma?Sunlight is a common cause of SCC

Curaderm-BEC5 finds every trace of Squamous Cell Carcinoma by using specific cell receptors which only allow the precancerous cells to be recognised.
